چکیده

Abstract If human population growth is not controlled, natural areas must be sacrificed. An alternative to create more habitat, terraforming Mars. However, this requires establishment of essential, ecosystem services on a planet currently unamenable Terran species. Shorter term, assembling Terran-type ecosystems within contained environments conceivable if mutually supportive species complements are determined. Accepting this, an assemblage organisms that might form early, forest environment proposed, with rationale for its selection. A case made developing facsimile, old Mars, providing oasis, proffering vital functions (a bubble). It would serve as extraterrestrial nature reserve (ETNR), psychological refuge and utilitarian botanic garden, supporting value colonists secondary metabolites (vitamins, flavours, perfumes, medicines, colours mood enhancers). The design presented includes tolerate local environmental variance assembled into novel, bioregenerative ecosystem. This differ from Earthly forests due potential impact abiotic parameters functions, but it argued biotic support space travel colonization such developments. Consideration the necessary complement ETNR supports view humanity alone reaching out space, life, all diverse capabilities establishment. Humans cannot, will not, explore because they did evolve in isolation, being shaped over aeons by other Space travelled system amongst which humans fit, exchanging products photosynthesis have always done.

Theory and Design of Nature Reserves

Managing landscapes In a 2008 review, David Lindenmayer and a long list of distinguished conservation biologists review two decades of research on landscape management [5]. They identify a set of 13 factors that anyone managing a landscape for conservation should consider, and they group those factors under four boad themes: setting goals, spatial issues, temporal issues, and management approac...

Managing Nature Reserves for Cranes in China

During the past 15 years, China has established more than 300 nature reserves. Many of the wetland reserves have been created primarily to protect endangered cranes. This paper summarizes the status of 22 nature reserves, 13 for breeding cranes and 9 for wintering cranes. The nature reserves have often been established in areas heavily populated or intensively used for economic purposes. Many r...

Disappearance of endangered turtles within China’s nature reserves

China ranks first among Northern hemisphere countries for species richness, but approximately 43% of its species are threatened [1], with harvesting being the major threat to vertebrates [2]. To protect its biodiversity, China has established about 2,700 nature reserves covering 1.46 million km2 ( about 15% of China's territory, a percentage higher than the world average [3]). With increasing h...
